The Solovox, manufactured by Hammond between 1940 and 1950, was one other traditional instrument of the period. Primarily based on the Novachord’s oscillator and divider circuits, the Solovox with its 18 vacuum tubes was a small monophonic keyboard instrument connected beneath a piano keyboard and meant to reinforce it with organ-type lead voices. It consisted of two items: the three-octave mini keyboard, and a tone cupboard for the digital sound generator, amplifier, and loudspeaker. Just like the Clavioline and Ondioline, the Solovox produced a spread of string, woodwind, and organ sounds and was extensively utilized in mild music from the Forties and into the Sixties. Sadly, the introduction of compact transistor organs launched within the 60s marked the tip of the Solovox’s reputation.
